The monkey from the Black Forest is not actually a fan of hocus-pocus; he prefers to keep things things clear and simple. Except, of course, when it comes to the legendary Hanky Panky, born around 100 years ago in the bar of the Savoy Hotel in London. Incidentally, it was served by a lady: the one and only Ada Coleman who, legend has it, fixed this drink for the actor and producer Charles Hawtrey, who welcomed it with great delight. So much so that he is said to have exclaimed “By Jove. That is the real hanky panky!”. And that is what this cocktail has been called ever since. Mix 4.5 cl Monkey 47 Schwarzwald Dry Gin with 4.5 cl Italian vermouth and 2 dashes of Fernet Branca on ice in a mixing glass, strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with orange zest.
