Twentieth Century

Monkey Meets Nightjar

© Jochen Hirschfeld

Twentieth Century is a cocktail created by a British bartender called C.A. Tuck, and named in honor of the celebrated Twentieth Century Limited train which ran between New York City and Chicago from 1902 until 1967. The recipe was first published in 1937 in the Café Royal Cocktail Book by William J. Tarling. The Nightjar version adds a little Fair Goji Liqueur to the mix and, in respect to the outstanding gin that is Monkey 47, substitutes just a touch of Mozart Dry Chocolate Eau de Vie in place of the sweeter creme de cacao. 50ml of Monkey 47, 20 ml of 'Kina' Lillet Blanc (infused with kina bark), 20 ml of Mozart Dry Eau de Vie, a dash of Fair Goji Liqueur, lemon juice, 2 dashes of sugar syrup, and a dash of orange bitters. Nightjar, London.
