Enchanting nights in Kyoto

Christophe Rossi, owner of the L’Escamoteur bar in Kyoto (and a good friend of the Monkey), is what you’d call one-of-a-kind. Whether through his appearance, his penchant for magic and sleight-of-hand, or simply his manner of being, he has a knack for casting a spell on just about anyone. This unique blend of traits is exactly what you’ll find at his bar, as well. Christophe describes his pride and joy as a place that just feels a bit different: “I work on every little detail to create that atmosphere,” he reveals. L’Escamoteur thus manages to transport its guests into a setting that's equal parts magic shop, laboratory, and old-time apothecary. When you find out that Christophe was originally a magician himself before turning his focus to bar culture, it’s even less surprising that every drink comes with its own bit of sorcery. “We put a lot of showmanship into making our drinks, and we've developed many creations of our own,” he adds. Take our word for it: It's a proper spectacle that’s not to be missed the next time you're in Japan. In that spirit – cheers!
